Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008

Due to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act signed into law in 2008, Finders Keepers is temporarily not handling children's clothing under size 12, toys or equipment. This law was meant to protect consumers from inferior childrens' goods with unsafe levels of lead coming out of China. However, in the name of product safety, all children's clothing, toys and equipment must be certified safe effective Feb. 10th. This has not only put many children's resalers in jeopardy but it has also created a stockpile of used children's items that cannot legally be sold or donated and thus must go to the landfill in order to comply with this law. It is a law that must be amended before consignment, thrift and other resalers can legally sell used, uncertified children's goods. Any statements made by the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) do not change this law. As a 25 year veteran of the resale industry, I will comply with this law and not sell children's merchandise that this law considers "uncertified". I will continue to lobby my Representatives and Senators, through my national organization (National Association of Resale and Thrift Shops (NARTS))to change this law.

Sincerely,

Bonnie Kallenberg
