The Story of Finders Keepers
In business since 1984 and owned by Atlanta native Bonnie Kallenberg since 1990, Finders Keepers Consignment Stores look back fondly at a very humble beginning: a tiny, single store-front in Avondale Estates’ Tudor Village that sold children’s clothing in the front, small home décor items in the back. The original owner quickly expanded into women’s clothing and accessories when the store-front next door became available. After several expansions, in 1995 Kallenberg built a brand new 4,500 square foot building from the ground up to house a very successful resale business which included home goods, women’s, plus-sizes, children’s, menswear and jewelry.
Supply and demand for consignment furniture and home décor grew at a fevered pace and the new store was once again bursting at the seams. Bonnie converted an old auto body shop close by into Finders Keepers Furnishings, a true gem in the Atlanta Consignment Industry and another 4000+ square feet of Finders Keepers Consignment. The flagship store became Finders Keepers Fashions with a focus on great quality clothing and accessories for men, women and plus-sizes. The side room that used to house home décor quickly filled with ladies shoes, handbags, scarves and hats. Today, Finders Keepers Furnishings boasts a newly renovated 11.000 Square Foot Space in the Twin Oaks Shopping Center.
As word spread, the quality of incoming consignments and accessories soared, bringing in labels such as Manolo Blahnik, Balenciaga, Chanel, Armani, St. John, Marc Jacobs , Prada and more. In order to showcase this designer merchandise, a third location was opened in October 2007: Finders Keepers Boutique, specializing in fashion-forward, designer and couture clothing and accessories. In 2011, Boutique moved when more space was available next door and the fourth store, Finders Keepers Menswear was opened in Boutique’s original space. A favorite with local filming companies, Finders Keepers Menswear sells modern and designer apparel and accessories for Atlanta’s fashion and budget conscious men. To take advantage of the entire storefront, all menswear merchandise was moved from Finders Keepers Fashions and is now held in one great, easily shopped location on North Decatur Road.
Are there more stores in our future? Yes! We certainly hope so! We are always looking for opportunities for growth as we work toward our vision of being known as a leader in the Consignment Industry in Atlanta. Kallenberg served on the Board of the National Association of Resale Professionals (NARTS) from 2007 to 2017, and served as president of the organization from 2013 to 2017. Our stores have been featured on several local news channels and newspapers including the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and The DeKalb Champion, as well as CNN’s Small Business Success Stories. Finders Keepers Boutique was used as a set for TBS’s “Movie and a Makeover” and multiple commercials have been filmed at our Menswear store. A local favorite and frequent winner of Best of Atlanta, Finders Keepers celebrates 36 years in the resale industry and looks forward to many more.
